The Story of AstraZeneca Australia

AstraZeneca has been present in Australia for more than 50 years, ensuring Australians have access to innovative medicines. They focus on three main therapeutic areas: Oncology; Respiratory, Inflammation and Autoimmunity (RIA); and Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases (CVMD). They are also active in the Infection, Neuroscience and Gastrointestinal (ING) disease areas.

To deliver the best value to patients, they build their capabilities by collaborating with scientists and academic institutions and partnering with science-led companies. Today, they have over 80 different product variations for patients.

Culture & vibe

AstraZeneca wants to be trusted by external parties as a sustainable source of great medicines for the long term. To deliver life-changing medicines, it requires continuous innovation and they need to put science at the centre of everything they do. Therefore, everyone at the organisation is committed to embedding learning into daily activities. It is integral to the way they go about their day-to-day.

They are also committed to being a great place to work for the benefit of their business and employees. Development and collaborative culture are top priorities. They foster an environment where their people feel they belong and are empowered to reach their full potential, perform at their best, and contribute to the enterprise. By doing this, they can make a difference to their patients.

Recruitment process

To find a suitable role, you can start by using their job search platform and filling out an application. There are four major areas you can choose from, which are Sales, Corporate, Medical, and Manufacturing.

Take careful reflection on your skills and how they match the role you are pursuing. When answering questions, make sure you have presented evidence that you possess the skills and qualities required.

Your application will be reviewed, and if shortlisted, the talent acquisition team will contact you to organise interviews. Gather your resume, a list of questions you have, a list of references, transcripts, a letter of recommendation, and anything else you might need. The interviews can consist of conversations on background information, case presentation and Q&A, and the understanding of the portfolio that the role will cover.

For lifelong learning to deliver life-changing medicines to patients, AstraZeneca invested in a wealth of development offerings and world-class technology and tools to make learning accessible, easy, and tailored to their needs, with a digital Learning Experience Platform called Degreed. They have lots of upskilling opportunities and new technological initiatives. However, career progression might be limited due to the small number of positions available.
