Pros & Cons

  • Flexibility & team size (presents opportunities to work directly with senior members of the team and take more responsibility than you would otherwise get in a larger team).
  • Great culture, lots of social events and a supportive learning environment. Encouraging of work-life balance and flexible working arrangements
  • The staff are so aware that we require lots of assistance and never make us feel small for not knowing things. Even at their most busy - they always ensure we are looked after and feel valued and not as though we are a burden.
  • Graduate pay isn't great but also quite standard.
  • Having a larger team can mean changing processes takes more time.
  • Busy season

My promotion possibilities include being promoted to accountant then senior accountant. In order to achieve these promotions, I will be required to perform at a high level and prove my capabilities through the engagements that I work on.

We have social volunteer days, we have leave available for blood donations/volunteer work etc. and we work on a lot of not-for-profits and so we are very aware of extra things we can do individually to help

I have been working from home for the majority of the year, however, when we are in the office there is a lot of collaboration and we are a tight-knit team. - I work directly with a senior manager and director of valuations every day and am very comfortable asking questions when needed. - Our team socializes regularly, both to celebrate our wins and after big engagements, we also socialize most Friday (when in the office).

Our firm is really welcoming of everyone! We have such a mix of different people across the firm as well as in each team. Retention is very high as it is a caring place to work.

Role and responsibilities vary each and every hour. It is exciting to work across such varied projects and clients, no project is exactly the same. The relative newness of my team means that we are constantly building and challenging and getting better. My role includes a lot of project management and organisation of client meetings, planning for workshop facilitation, analysis of data and building of presentations. There is a lot of creativity in building new products and services to serve our clients better.

Very happy with my managers, they are very accessible (talk every day). Great mentors, very knowledgeable and very happy to be learning from them. Feedback is good, I am told what areas I am doing well in and not so well in through highly constructive feedback.

location and facilities are great. Dress code is flexible dress - business is required if you’re meeting with clients but if not you are free to wear smart casual clothes.

P&C were constantly in touch regarding the process & always free for a chat. I was hired during COVID so was all MS Teams based - I had 2 interviews which were very easy going - BDO stressed that whilst skills were important, they were more looking for culture fits and those who were willing to give new things a try and be open to experiences.

The salary is very competitive and often above market. The company does not pay bonuses, at least not in the tax team.

We have nationally organized training that covers the technical skills required at each level from grad to manager which is fantastic.

My current work hours are the standard hours of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. However, these hours are quite flexible and I am always able to make arrangements if any other urgencies come up and my managers & partners have always been extremely accommodating.
