8.0 rating for Culture, based on 42 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
Dependent on the team but most teams are very team oriented and friendly, flexible with working times and great culture.

Good attitude towards work but there are staffing/resourcing issues. The team does the work well but there's lots of dependency on other sections/external individuals which is where productivity slows (related to IT systems, permissions).

Clear hierarchy within my current rotation. Everyone follows up on tasks or requests. A more informal workplace in terms of asking for help and assistance. Outside of work is fun, energetic and socialising is a big plus.

In the office there is lots of collaboration at the working level regarding projects etc. After hours there have been gatherings to boost the culture of the team and group which has been a good opportunity to socialise and network with others outside the immediate team. There are also social sports being organised which further enable this networking

The culture is great in the office. Team members work well together and are there to assist.

Varies depending what team you're in. In my current role, my first day I was greeted with banana bread that we shared as we chatted during the team's weekly catch up. My team is fairly small, but everyone is friendly and work well together. I haven't been here long enough to experience after hours culture, but the team has told me they do have team breakfasts and team dinners on a semi-regular basis.

There are numerous social activities during lunchtime and/or after hours. Many of these relate to sport, and we have had teams enter the City to Surf, Sydney Running Festival, and others. As with most of the public service hierarchy is fairly rigid, but being a science organisation it is a bit more easy going.

Being so large, the hierarchy within Defence can be quite cumbersome and top-down at times. However, if you have an opportunity to speak to those in higher levels, they are usually willing to listen to your feedback, ideas, aspirations. Teams typically work well together and most teams have a good reputation for working with others. Defence seems to have an appropriate blend of socialising and appreciates the value this has with regards to teamwork and productivity.

Office culture is a mix between professionals and end-users/maintainers. Pretty interesting blend of experiences and viewpoints

Culture varies across work areas and according to who you are able to meet and network in teams in other areas. Overall positive and collaborative environment, with some opportunities for social events both inside and outside of work hours.

There is a very inclusive culture present in my team and organisation. There is also a strong emphasis in my team to maintain work-life balance, and graduates are encouraged to not be overworked.

Cooperation and socialisation is excellent, work culture can differ depending on the team. Met many teams that prioritise work life balance

Easy going, genuine discussion, want to 'get things done'

Culture is generally positive; however, this can vary depending on teams and locations. I am very satisfied with my current team - supervisors are supportive, colleagues are very friendly and helpful, many organised social events to participate in
