Pros & Cons

  • The best part of the company is the people. The culture is positive and very friendly.
  • So many perks and a wonderful culture - the partners I've worked for are incredibly supportive and great mentors. Very flexible workplace and a very friendly office.
  • Great culture and competitive remuneration. There is also a focus on development and there are lots of opportunities for progression.
  • Everyone is very approachable, from partners to support staff people make an effort. You'll never really be left in the dark or unable to ask questions.
  • Excellent learning opportunities and it is a large enough firm I can do a variety of work in different teams. The remuneration is good as well
  • It can be a lot of work, as everywhere in the legal field, so some late nights and weekends are unavoidable.
  • Workflow can sometimes be slow and the channels of communication need to be improved.
  • Rotation placements in the graduate program are competitive and based on business needs so there are no guarantees you will be able to settle in a particular practice group you have your heart set on. There is also very little communication usually before placements start about where you will be going.
  • Long hours, lots of work, and pressure
  • No transparency with remuneration and career progression

Culture
It's great. For one of the big 6 law firms in the country, it is genuinely surprising how engaging the entire office is with culture. There are always mini-events on for the entire office at their internal cafe. Each floor also has events and puts things on for their team. Usually, when a big deal closes there is a team lunch for people who worked on it. After-work drinks on Friday downstairs is a regular occurrence, as well as many coffee trips throughout the day. At all different levels people can choose to join in or not, there's never any pressure but always good fun and a great way to meet new people and chat socially to develop networks.

Office is amazing. Located in Circular Quay the views are spectacular of the Sydney harbour and easy to access by public transport. Offices are very modern and open. Bathrooms are great and the building provides exercise classes and has fully facilitated change rooms with showers, towels, soap, etc. They have an internal cafe where everything is heavily subsidised by the company ($2 coffees, $6 lunches, etc.). There's plenty of places to eat and drink surrounding as well. The building also offers lots of other services such as a mail room, bike racks, dry cleaning, and general concierge services.

Company is extremely flexible. There is a variety of people working from home and in the office. As long as the work gets done, then when it gets done doesn't matter as much. Some people start and finish later, others opt for earlier. Some take a break to exercise during the day.
