As our Graduate Quantitative trader, you will start our renowned three-month Trader training program by spending your first 4 weeks in our Amsterdam office. Following this, you will return to Sydney and cover the foundations of everything that you will need to know โ€“ the theory, the markets, the strategies and the technology. Once youโ€™ve got the basics covered, youโ€™ll put your knowledge into practice and start trading in our simulated trading environment, which is a live copy of the financial market!

Ready to test your limits? Join Optiver and accelerate your growth in a truly fascinating, high-performance environment.

Who we are

Optiver is a tech-driven trading firm and leading global market maker.ย For over 35 years, Optiver has been improving financial markets around the world, making them more transparent and efficient for all participants. With a focus on cutting-edge engineering, data science and research, we actively trade on 50+ exchanges, where weโ€™re trusted to always provide accurate buy and sell pricing โ€“ no matter the market conditions.ย

Optiverโ€™s Sydney office is one of the primary players within Asian markets, trading a range of products. As an active participant in the Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, and Japan exchanges, we act as Optiverโ€™s APAC head office.

What you'll do

As our Graduate Quantitative Trader, youโ€™ll be constantly applying your brand of maths and problem solving to understand the dynamics of financial markets.

From your first day on the trading floor, youโ€™ll have autonomy and responsibility to make decisions that create an immediate impact. Every day will present you with new and interesting challenges to solve. And itโ€™s up to you and your team to drive our success through Optiverโ€™s market-leading technology stack. Youโ€™ll be:

  • Trading, while constantly looking for creative quantitative solutions to real-world events ahead of the competition
  • Developing your own robust models and algorithms to offer the best price on the products you trade
  • Building tools, conducting analysis and leading projects that take your teamโ€™s trading strategies to the next level
  • Working collectively with leading Traders, Technologists and Researchers in the industry, to stay at the top of our game

Who you are

Youโ€™re a lateral thinker who is quick to apply your brand of maths to understand quantitative problems. You have an interest in a variety of activities that could be classed as quantitatively challenging, fast-paced, high performing or analytically rigorous. Youโ€™re also a strong believer in the power of collaborative problem-solving. You may already be passionate about trading, or it may have only recently piqued your interest.

While our Traders all share a passion for creative quantitative problem solving, they work in three main areas with different focuses. After the training program, you can select the role that appeals to you the most, and we will work together with you in the recruitment process to ensure that the area is most suitable for you. ย

  • Options Market Maker

You have a real passion for quantitative problems and a flair for numbers. Outside of market hours, you will work on projects that will further set you up for success during trading hours.
