The Apprentice Program is targeted at accelerating your development and providing you with the opportunity to work on significant infrastructure projects that will shape the future of the energy industry in Australia, including connecting renewable energy to the network. As an apprentice with Transgrid, you can look forward to hands-on learning and development in a supportive and stimulating environment.

We are looking for goal oriented, committed and agile apprentices that enjoy problem solving and working as part of a team.

During your time as an apprentice within the program, you will have access to:

  • A competitive starting salary package of $59,460.08 (incl. super)

  • Structured technical capability development programs in a variety of specialist areas
  • Multiple career opportunities as you progress through your apprenticeship, inclusive of pathways to either Substation Technician roles or Secondary Systems Technician roles.
  • Industry leading training and technical experience building, maintaining and running diagnostic test and repairs on High Voltage equipment ranging up to 500kV on Transformers, Circuit Breakers and other primary and secondary plant including digital relays and control systems.  
  • Hand-tools and workshop machinery skills
  • Welding courses
  • Nationally accredited safety training and various high risk licences
  • On the job training and supportive transition into the role
  • Protective clothing and tools required for the job
  • Access to study assistance
  • On completion of the apprenticeship you will receive a certificate of proficiency as an Electrotechnology Electrician

To be considered, you must have:

  • Completed high school studies (minimum year 10 or equivalent) by the end of 2024 and have sound mathematics and communication skills
  • A genuine interest in a trade working within a high voltage electricity transmission network
  • A current driver’s licence or be willing to obtain one as soon as possible after appointment
  • Environmentally and socially responsible
  • A team player, motivated and willing to learn
  • Able to think laterally and to provide input to innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Able to work well with others
  • A clear communicator
  • Appreciative and sensitive of difference and diversity
  • An Australian permanent resident or an Australian or New Zealand citizen 
  • Ability to travel and work away from home at various locations when required
  • The ability to start in January 2025
