ANSTO is the home of Australia’s most significant landmark and national infrastructure for research. Thousands of scientists from industry and academia benefit from gaining access to state-of-the-art instruments every year.

ANSTO aims to attract highly-skilled individuals who work collaboratively, with professionalism and integrity. More than 1,200 people are currently employed with one-third involved in scientific research across areas such as materials, health, climate science, mining and engineering.

ANSTO has provided employment to the Illawarra, Sutherland Shire and greater Sydney for decades and offers a diverse range of career opportunities, from science to engineering and business development. Staff are supported with development opportunities crafted over many years.

Graduate Development Program

The ANSTO Graduate Development Program aims to develop and nurture the next generation of business and science leaders. Offering a comprehensive learning and development experience providing graduates with the foundation skills to build a successful career. We look for graduates who are passionate about making a contribution to Australian society through supporting nuclear science and technology. 

Cadetship Program

An entry-level employment pathway for you to immerse yourself in practical paid work whilst completing your undergraduate studies. ANSTO's Cadetship program will invest in you, providing ongoing development, diverse learning, professional growth and mentoring. 

Internship Opportunities

Internships at ANSTO offer the opportunity to apply theory and practice, in your chosen field, to enhance the value of your remaining study. Students bring fresh ideas and the latest in theory and practice to the workplace, challenge and sometimes improve processes and contribute in a meaningful way to the projects and activities.

Recruitment Process

ANSTO employees are passionate about what they do. We enjoy being part of an organisation making a difference in the lives of Australians.

ANSTO's Graduate Development Program recruits every 2 years; applications for our 2025 Graduate Development Program will open mid 2024. Our recruitment process starts with the online application and concludes with an assessment centre.

As part of the ANSTO online application process, you are required to upload your resume, cover letter, transcript/s and respond to a series of specific questions. This information will be used by the panel to determine your suitability. Shortlisting will commence soon after the closing date for applications however the completion of this may take several weeks, depending on the number of applications received. Only those who demonstrate the strongest claims will be selected for assessment centre. Applicants not selected will be notified by email.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants will require a security and pre-employment medical assessment. Citizenship requirements must also be met. As a Commonwealth Statutory Authority, ANSTO follows best practice recruitment procedures.
